HOME OF THE TIGER SHARKS
Dear TVWRA Friends,
Happy New Year! I hope this finds you and your family well and thinking about warmer
weather and another fun season at TVWRA! Your TVWRA board has remained busy since we
closed the pool in September. We appreciate the feedback received from members on our end
of season survey. We are putting several of the ideas into action this season.
We have passed a balanced budget for 2023 and established the dues to support the budget.
As with everything, our expenses continue to grow. We reviewed three proposals for
management of the pool and selected to stay with SwimMetro under a new three year
contract. Not only did they offer the best knowledge of our operations, but their proposal was
the least expensive by a significant amount. With the expected operating expenses for 2023,
including the impact of increased minimum wages, we held our dues increase to $25 across the
board. Of course, we had hoped to offer no increase, but we are unable to do so and remain
operationally safe and fiscally sound. Details about dues and the annual pool application will be
forthcoming in a separate email.
Fortunately, we are not faced with major improvement projects as we were last year. We do
plan on adding additional white seating chairs and replacing dated and broken lounge chairs
and umbrellas. We will do as much as possible to clean and improve the bathrooms, including
replacing the floors. We will use one of the two tennis courts to make at least one pickle ball
court. Many of these items were mentioned in the survey feedback. We want to let everyone
know we are listening and incorporating your input into our plans where possible.
Since we closed we found out that our snack and drink vendor will no longer support the
machines we have offered for years. We are working on retrofitting the front entrance to allow
us to offer a limited concession of snacks and drinks along with ice cream this season. We are
incorporating your input about our social events and will include a calendar with our dues
mailing. To enhance the adult social calendar, we are adding a Low Country Boil in August to
our list of events!
In the survey there were comments about ceasing vaping within the pool facilities. We posed
the question to the full membership to see how deep those feelings were. As a result of your
input, we have updated the Rules and Regulations for the facility to not allow smoking and
vaping within the gated facility. We will continue to offer a smoking/vaping area at the stairs
going to the hill. We have also clarified that illegal drugs and any psychoactive, mind-altering
substances including cannabis/marijuana, are not permitted on Association property.
To ensure adequate guard coverage we have to adjust our hours of operation in line with the
changes in Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS) schedule.
Our 2023 operating hours will be:
Opening Day: Saturday, May 27, 2023
